Here are the basic steps on how to play Mermaid Game:

1. Set up the game board and place the mermaid movers on the start space.
2. Shuffle the treasure cards and place them face down next to the game board.
3. Place the tide marker on the 1 space on the tide track.
4. The youngest player takes the first turn.

On your turn, you can do one of the following:

• Move a mermaid to an adjacent space.
• Play a treasure card to help you move, collect treasure, or avoid obstacles.
• Draw a tide card.

If you move a mermaid to a space with a treasure card, you can take that card. If you move a mermaid to a space with an obstacle, you must draw a tide card. If you draw a tide card, you must move the tide marker one space up the tide track. If the tide marker reaches the 10 space on the tide track, the players lose the game.

The first player to collect all four treasure cards wins the game.
